Shreveport Farmers’ Market Opens for 37rd Summer Season with 75 Vendors: Mayor Arceneaux to Ring Opening Bell
Happy days return to downtown Shreveport on Saturday with the opening of the Shreveport Farmers’ Market. The market will be open every Saturday through August 26 from 7:30 am- 12:30 pm.
At 7:30 am on Saturday, Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux will handle the ceremonial ringing of the ‘official’ opening bell at the Festival Plaza tower. Once that bell rings the shopping commences and what shopping it will be!
The East Pavilion will feature vegetables, fruits, herbs, plants, honey, and meats grown/raised within a 100-mile radius of Shreveport. Ranchers will have ethically-raised beef, pork, chicken, and lamb. Great breads, jams, jellies, pickles, various canned goods, locally-made soaps, dog treats, seasonings, and sauces will also be available, and enough chocolates, cookies, cakes, candies, donuts, and pralines to make any sweet tooth happy!
There will also be art and locally-made candles, and enough flowers, coffee, tea, and ready to eat foods to make even the grumpiest at having to get up early on a Saturday, smile.
Free parking is available at meters and certain downtown lots. There are public restrooms under the Spring Street Bridge, and plenty of seating and shade. There is an ATM onsite, and some vendors accept credit/debit cards. The market also accepts SNAP transactions to spend with participating vendors, and some farmers accept Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Food Coupons available through parish Councils on Aging and WIC.
The market is a project of Red River Revel, Inc. and is supported by the Downtown Development Authority, Slow Food North Louisiana and the City of Shreveport.
